Marvin Walter
Marvin J. Walter is an Iowa entrepreneur who has founded five companies. He
is a strong advocate of agricultural education and entrepreneurship. Walter is
an Iowa State University graduate with B.S. and M.S. degrees in animal science
and is a member of the ISU College of Agriculture, Animal Science Department
Hall of Fame.
He is the founder and former owner of Ames Processed Foods Company, Inc; Carriage
House Meat & Provision Company, Inc.; and Webster City Customer Meats, Inc.
He sold his interest in the companies in 1995.
Walter has been honored through numerous awards and recognition including:
- SBA's Iowa Innovation Advocate
- Iowa's Small Business Person of the Year
- Ames Chamber Small Business Person of the Year
- AMI's Edward C. Jones National Community Service Award
- Iowa Supporter of Entrepreneurship for the Year by Ernst & Young, Inc. Magazine, and Merrill Lynch
- Appointment to Reagan-Bush National Agricultural Advisory Committee
His extensive civic involvement includes serving as the director of the American
Meat Institute and the U.S. Meat Export Federation, president & chairman
of the National Association of Meat Purveyors, chairman of Deli Prepared Beef
Committee, director of Iowa 4-H Foundation, president of the ISU Alumni Association,
governor of the ISU Foundation, founding director of the ISU Achievement Foundation,
founding director of the Iowa Games, director of the Ames Economic Development
Commission and Ames Seed Capital Fund, and serving on the Executive Committee
of NCBA.
Walter, and his wife Janice, have two children.
