GLOBAL SUMMIT: ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SUSTAINABILITY
IN EMERGING MARKETS

Summit Location: The Summit will take place on the island of San Cristobal in the Galapagos Archipelago, one of the world´s most enchanting destinations. Prior to their arrival to the island, participants will have an opportunity to spend two nights in Quito, a UNESCO Heritage Site, with an extensive history in both the indigenous and colonial traditions. The historic quarters, restored in the previous century, include the presidential palace, Quito´s Basilica and Cathedral, the renowned Iglesia de la Compania, museums, galleries, and many other attractions.
The University Campus is located in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is a quaint port on the island of the same name, and like most of the other islands in the archipelago, enjoys an abundance of wild animals including, among others, sea lions, Galapagos turtles, pelicans, and a plethora of sea creatures for the amateur and avid snorkeler and deep sea diver. A variety of additional tours are available to the islands of Española, Floreana, Santa Cruz, Isabela, Fernandina, Santiago and Bartolomé.
Summit Dates: Pre Summit Sessions will be held in Quito and Guayaquil on Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20. The Plenary sessions begin on San Cristobal on Tuesday, June 22, with the opening reception scheduled on the evening of Monday, June 21st.
Summit Overview: Emerging Markets have been identified as significant players in the context of a global economic recovery, and considerable attention is being given to Entrepreneurship as a significant vehicle to that end. The Summit will explore the challenges, opportunities, and recommendations for promoting viable systems in which sustainable entrepreneurship can thrive in the world´s emerging markets. The role of government will be considered, focusing in particular on the extraordinary proliferation of entrepreneurial activity in countries like China, India, Taiwan, Chile and Brazil, among others.

The deadline for submissions is February 10, 2010. You will be notified by March 8, 2010, whether your submission has been accepted for presentations.

The Summit on Entrepreneurship and Sustainability in Emerging Markets extends a cordial invitation and bring together entrepreneurs, academicians, government and non profit organization managers, and, in general, to anyone interested in promoting entrepreneurship in emerging markets.
Summit Outcome:
Presentations from the Summit will provide content for the first Journal of Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets
Panel Submission
Panels are solicited that examine innovative, controversial, or otherwise provocative issues of interest. All panel submissions will be handled electronically. Authors should e-mail the completed submission form which may be obtained on the Summit website at http://www.usfq.edu.ec/Summit2010/papers
Paper Submission
The program committee welcomes paper and session proposals on the five Summit tracks: Economics and Finance, Technology, Environment, Education, and Social Responsibility. Papers that address similar and related issues will also be considered. Sessions usually consist of three thirty-minute papers, and proposals should be geared to that length. A different format for some sessions may be chosen by the Program Committee after the proposals have been reviewed. Session organizers may wish to propose different formats for their sessions, subject to Program Committee approval.
All paper submissions will be handled electronically. Authors should email their paper or detailed abstract and the completed submission form available on the Summit website at http://www.usfq.edu.ec/Summit2010/papers
The proposal must have two parts: (1) a cover sheet containing the proposer’s name, institutional affiliation, professional status, postal address, home and office telephone numbers, fax number (if available), e-mail address, and paper title; (2) a second sheet containing the proposer’s name, track for which the paper should be considered, paper title, 250-word abstract, JEL codes, and audio-visual equipment requirements. If the proposer will be at a different address when decisions are announced in March, that address should be included.
Selection Process
The program committee will evaluate papers, tutorials, and panels based on quality and relevance. All submissions are held in confidentiality prior to publication in the proceedings.
Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered unless an extension has been granted by the program chairs. Where employer, client, or government authorization is needed, the author(s) will obtain such authorization prior to submitting the final manuscript.
Accepted papers will be presented by their author(s) and will be published in the conference proceedings. The proceedings are provided free of charge to conference attendees. Peer reviewed papers will be included in the first Journal of Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets
Copyright
The Universidad San Francisco de Quito requires a non-exclusive copyright license for all the papers presented at the conference and for the presentation material. This includes potential distribution on a Summit CD-ROM and/or the Summit website.
Audio-visual equipment
Requests for audio-visual equipment must be made with the proposal.
Graduate Student Prizes
The top three student proposals will be awarded a $300 prize to help cover Summit expenses, and will have their registration fee waived.
