Reiman Speaker Series

The Reiman Entrepreneurial Speaker Series was established through a generous gift from Roy and Bobbi Reiman of Greendale, Wisconsin. The lecture series features an entrepreneurial guest who spends time at Iowa State University meeting with students, faculty, and business leaders. The guest speaker also gives a community lecture on campus.

The 2019 Fall speaker will be Roy Reiman | September 13 from 3:30-5:00 p.m.

Roy Reiman was born on a farm near Auburn, Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University in 1958 with a degree in agricultural journalism.  He joined Capper’s Farmer magazine in Topeka and became Managing Editor at the age of 23.

After moving to Wisconsin and working for another magazine firm, he launched his own company in the basement of his home.  Reiman Publications grew to employ over 600 people and published 14 national magazines–all of which were supported solely with subscriptions, and no advertising.  They included Country, Farm & Ranch Living, Taste of Home, Country Woman, Reminisce, , Crafting Traditions, Birds & Blooms and more.  At the company’s peak, when the total circulation reached 16.3 million subscribers, every eighth home in America received at least one of the magazines.

The company was sold to Madison Dearborn Partners Inc., a Chicago investment firm, in 1998, then was resold to Reader’s Digest Association in 2002.  Twelve years ago Reiman “flunked retirement”, as he puts it, and launched Our Iowa for his home state, and 5 years ago launched Our Wisconsin for his adopted state.  The magazines are basically reader-written, which was the trademark of his original publications. The Reimans support the Pappajohn Center’s speaker series and entrepreneur internship program.
