The Innovation Pitch Competition is hosted every fall and spring semester by the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Learning Community (EILC) for enrolled Iowa State students. Students have the chance to pitch their business concept or idea in a 90-second elevator pitch to a panel of judges. Real cash prizes are awarded in the following categories:
Best Overall Pitch – Selected to represent Iowa State and compete at the national Collegiete Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO) Conference in Tampa, Florida.
Best overall pitch will be awarded to an individual who delivered the best pitch. This category may or may not be awarded to an individual winning one of the three categories: new business idea, new innovation, or social venture.
New Business Idea – Cash Prize
New concept, model, or venture. Examples may include new retail, web-based, manufacturing, or service business concept.
New Innovation – Cash Prize
A new product application, invention, or innovation that may or may not be developed as a stand-alone venture. Examples may include a new product, a commercializable technology, or a social media or web application.
Social Venture – Cash Prize
A venture with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social problems. Examples may include environment, food supply, education, healthcare and can be either a for-profit or nonprofit.
Audience Choice – (Winner selected by audience)
Audience members will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite pitch. This award will be given completely separate and without consultation from the judges.
