Startup Ames in an initiative led by local entrepreneurs to bring together the entrepreneurial community to help foster a robust community that gives entrepreneurs fertile ground to launch new businesses in Ames.
We are excited to bring in Hank Harris to share the story behind Harrisvaccines and about their recent acquisition with Merck. Hank is the founder of Harrisvaccines, located in Ames within the ISU Research Park.
Harrisvaccines was the first company to get approval in 2014 for a vaccine to help protect piglets from the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus that killed millions of pigs in more than 30 states, including Iowa, the country’s largest pork producer. And in fall 2015, it announced it was awarded a $6 million contract to provide 48 million doses of its bird flu vaccine to the USDA.
Please join us over your lunch hour for Startup Ames at the Ames Public Library, DanFoss Room! We are looking to order Fighting Burrito so for those of you hungry, bring $5-$6 and RSVP by emailing Diana Wright at firstname.lastname@example.org.
