Back for the Fourth Year: College-by-College Pitch Off
The stakes are high - $22,500 in cash prizes! 
Registration is now open for Iowa State students to compete in the College-by-College Pitch Off, hosted in all seven colleges. Students will have the chance to deliver a 90-second pitch for an idea or business they are working on to a panel of judges for cash prizes.

In addition to a cash prize, the top two in each category (a new idea or existing business) in each college pitch-off will advance to the Innovation Pitch Competition, hosted at the Student Innovation Center LaunchPad on February 25.

Iowa State recognized for excellence in entrepreneurship education

Iowa State University USASBE Model Program Award Winner
The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) Model Program Award recognizes colleges and universities that provide comprehensive, bold, high-quality educational programs that train future generations of entrepreneurs. Iowa State University was the winner of the award, the highest of the organization’s four prestigious annual Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education Awards. The announcement was made January 8 as part of the USASBE annual conference.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as a USASBE Model Program,” says ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship Director Judi Eyles. “Iowa State enlists a truly cross-disciplinary approach, engaging all seven colleges across campus to participate in our comprehensive and robust innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.”

The Pappajohn Center welcomes new team members

Announces other appointments within its innovative and impactful programs
The Pappajohn Center is pleased to welcome new faces and appointments to continue to grow its impactful entrepreneurship programs at Iowa State University. 

Peter Hong (top left) has been named the new director of the ISU Startup Factory and will help run the Go-to-Market (G2M) Accelerator program. 
Julie Lelonek (top right) has been named as program specialist for the ISU Startup Factory and G2M Accelerator programs.
Jean Walsh (bottom left) joined the Pappajohn Center as a program assistant, providing administrative support and facilitating entrepreneurial programs.
Megan Sweere (bottom right) has assumed new responsibilities within her program specialist role to support entrepreneurial students across campus and in the Student Innovation Center.

The Center also welcomes Jon Kallen as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) to the new G2M Accelerator. Donna Ramaeker Zahn and Tim Neugent continue their roles as EIRs in the newly-organized Startup Factory.

CYstarters student accelerator applications are open for 2021!

CYstarters is recruiting its sixth cohort!  The 11–week intensive program gives young entrepreneurs the time, funding, network of mentors, and skill-set development to start something while at Iowa State.  Students will receive $6,500 per individual or up to $13,000 per student team for the opportunity to spend the summer dedicated to achieving startup goals and pursuing entrepreneurial aspirations. 

The program is open to current and recent ISU students. 
The deadline to apply is March 8.  Program dates: May 17 through July 30, 2021.

The selection process is competitive, with only a limited number of spots for the summer accelerator.

The 2020 Women Who Create Scholarship Award Winners
Congratulations to Zakariyah Hill, Sydney Peterson, and Danielle Youngblut, our 2020 Women Who Create Scholarship Award winners, each receiving $1,000.

The Women Who Create Scholarship Award was established in fall 2020 as part of the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship’s effort to continue to support, help, and celebrate women entrepreneurs through the Women Who Create programming. Special thanks to the Ivy College of Business and Tom Swartwood & Terri Combs for the gifts to establish the awards.
