Reiman Speaker Series

Reiman Speaker Series

The Reiman Entrepreneurial Speaker Series was established through a generous gift from Roy and Bobbi Reiman of Greendale, Wisconsin. The lecture series features an entrepreneurial guest who spends time at Iowa State University meeting with students, faculty, and business leaders. The guest speaker also gives a community lecture on campus.

The 2020 Spring Speaker Series:

Using Data and Technology to Disrupt

Alex Timm // CEO and Co-founder Root Insurance

With a vision of completely transforming the insurance industry, Alex founded Root Insurance on the principle that rates should be based on driving behaviors, not demographics. As Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Root, Alex leads the company in revolutionizing this outdated industry, using mobile technology and data science to offer personalized auto insurance rates to good drivers. Root Insurance landed in the Top 20 of CNBC’s Disruptor 50 Companies for 2020.

Throughout his career in insurance, Alex has built expertise in pricing and reserving, finance, and merger and acquisitions. Before co-founding Root, Alex worked at Nationwide Insurance as a senior strategy consultant for the property and casualty lines of the business. Alex is based in Columbus, Ohio and is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
