In September 1996, John Pappajohn announced his plans to donate $5 million to start a network of entrepreneurial centers at Iowa’s three state universities, Drake University and North Iowa Area Community College. To kickoff the tour, John and Govenor Terry Branstad took a private plane to each of the locations for the new entrepreneurial centers: Mason City, Des Moines, Ames, Iowa City, and Cedar Falls. Today each center defines its own mission and serves the state in a manner consistent with its particular strengths, but altogether each center has the same ultimate purpose: to enhance the effectiveness of Iowa’s entrepreneurs. The Pappajohns have invested more then $25 million into this unique entrepreneurial network.
